Got both 6x8's in the front replaced. Wow! Sounds like a completely new system!! They add clarity to match the base from my Thunderform.
Are there more than one type of direct fit 8" door subs?

From what I read the only "direct fit" subs are the Kickers. There are some other shallow mount speakers that will fit with slight modifications though.

I got the ones designed for the shaker system. They are a decent upgrade for the money and fit without issues. Installed the Kicker trunk sub and amp today. Its a little pricey for what you get. I am sure one could do better with other brands. I liked the fact that it was plug and play, and the enclosure fits nicely in the trunk. I am very satisfied with the completed product, and will not miss the mud that the factory set up sounded like to me.

That's the only thing stopping me from getting the kickers is the godawful surrounds on them. If we could somehow reuse our factory ones by fabricating a spacer, I'd have a set here now.

Pretty sure there is no way to make the stock trims or rings fit around the kickers.

Sorry, should have been more specific on the plug and play. No, I did not find any wiring I could use. But I have to admit, I wasn't looking. Kicker supplies you with a harness that runs from the engine compartment, picks up speaker signal in the passenger foot well, then continues to the passenger side trunk where the enclosure mounts. I did use the Kicker grills. I think they look fine, especially since I have the charcoal interior. I was not a big fan of the chrome rings on the factory grills. Can put up a picture if anyone wants to see how they look installed.

Thanks for the pix SS05GT. I agree, those grills are fine. I know they don't make a stealth box of kicker for my Vert trunk yet, so I will just wait and see if I can get my door subs working good enough to cover it for a while.

A quick thanks to those who supplied info about replacing their door speakers. Just did the Pioneer TS-D6802R. Thanks to the tips and clips, it was a breeze. A cheap upgrade that made a world of difference. I have been disappointed with the factory sound since I got the car. Much better now.

Really excited, just finished putting everything back together from my stereo install a few hours ago. Overhauled pretty much every part of the stock system and it sounds pretty **** good now. Replaced the front door speakers with Image Dynamics CTX65cs components, rears with CTX65 coaxials, built a custom fiberglass box that sits in the spare tire well with a Sundown Audio SA-12 and an Eclipse 5 channel amp mounted to it, and put about 40 sq ft of sound deadener over anything remotely close to a speaker. It was a serious pain to get the 6.5" components mounted in the front doors, but I think it was worth it. I'll post a few pictures I took during the install tomorrow.
