Hi everyone,


Kenwood has announced the 2014 lineup so I wanted to pass on the information about what models work with Maestro and what features you get.


Double DIN AV (non-navigation) radios:


DDX271 - This is a simple and cost effective unit if all you want to do is retain Sync. It does not have any of the bells and whistles (gauges, Climate or Vehicle Info), nor does it have Bluetooth embedded so you will need to use Sync for that. It also is the only unit that connects to Maestro with the SXI DIN cable (ADS-HRN(SX)-ALL01) and because of that you cannot use both Maestro and add the SXV200 sat tuner. You will have to make a choice. This radio cannot be used with the MUS1 dash kit as it does not have a climate screen.


DDX5901HD, DDX7701HD, DDX8901HD - These are new platform AV units with beefed up processors. They have all the features of the 2013 models as listed here: Kenwood and Maestro in Mustang!They have dedicated port for Maestro so you can use both Maestro and SXV200 tuner (same as last year's models).


They also add support for CLOCK output so we can now display the time on the secondary screen at top of dash.


Double DIN Navigation Radios:


DNX571HD, DNX691HD, DNX771HD, DNX891HD - These are new platform Navigation units. They have all the features of the 2013 models as listed here: Kenwood and Maestro in Mustang! They have dedicated port for Maestro so you can use both Maestro and SXV200 tuner (same as last year's models).


They also add support for CLOCK output so we can now display the time on the secondary screen at top of dash.


Double DIN Network Connected Navigation Radios:


DNN770HD (carry over from 2013), DNN991HD - These are Android based, wi-fi enabled Navigation units. They have all the features of the 2013 models as listed here: Kenwood and Maestro in Mustang!


They have dedicated port for Maestro so you can use both Maestro and SXV200 tuner (same as last year's models).


The DNN991HD adds support for CLOCK output so we can now display the time on the secondary screen at top of dash.


Hope this is helpful. In addition, Alpine and Pioneer have announced compatible radios but I will detail them in separate posts.

Nice that they actually added clock support. Wonder if a update will come for those of us that has a 13 ?

Do the new platform AV units support all of the Maestro features that a 2013 Nav unit used to? I seem to remember reading that the 2013 AV units did not support all of the features.

Do the new units boot up faster than the 2013 units?

OK some more questions have come to mind (besides those above). Hoping to get answers in the next couple of days before a sale ends. I'm feeling the itch to do this sooner than I had thought I might. Though if the AV units have full functionality I might hold off since none of them have the rebate and I really don't need NAV since I have a Garmin already.

What are the differences between DNX891HD and DNN991HD? I'm seeing mainly WiFi and SD card. I did notice some spec differences on Kenwood's site. They show some S/N, and Dynamic ranges differences in the specs. They also show the 891 having MAP Bluetooth profile and not the 991. Not a big deal since I'd likely be using Sync for that stuff anyway. For HDMI the 891 shows 'yes' and the 991 shows 'Type A'. The 991 also shows a 3 way x-over section but no numbers in it, something call 'DAB', and under Audio is shows TONE (BASS, MIDDLE, TREBLE).

If I want Sirius/XM I still have to buy the add on unit correct? It wont' use the factory system because that comes out with the old head unit I presume???

I was also wondering if these NAV units have free lifetime map updates like my stand alone Garmin? If so, how do you update maps? I would think SD on the 991 but what about the others?

Most of these questions are related to Kenwood features/differences and I am not able to really speak to them.


The new 2014 AV units (those with 4 digit part numbers) do everything the navigation units do. Last year's DDX370 and this year's DDX271 are a limited implementation and require SXI cord and you can't have both Maestro and Sat radio.


Call Kenwood to get differences between the 891 and 991, but main thing is the 991 includes wifi connectivity and is Android based. Some people love it and some feel it is sluggish and overkill for a car stereo.


No matter what radio you install, you will need the Sirius add on tuner if you want Sat radio after the install as your factory tuner comes out with radio.


I don't think any head unit comes with lifetime map updates, but I could be wrong.


BTW, the Alpine radio is also out now - INE-957HD.

Hey 12v Guy, I have the DNX-891 HD and the full Maestro kit and all that jazz on my '13 GT, and I'm realizing that now I have this, the Bluetooth portion of sync is really useless for me, and it's a pain having my phone paired to sync for calls, and to the kenwood deck for music audio.

Is there a way to use the stock microphone for the bluetooth microphone?

it's my only major annoyance. the second is the dimmer.

Does that mean that you can't tell Sync to play "Bluetooth Audio"? I was kind of wondering if Sync was even necessary at all with a system like this but it doesn't look like the Kenwood units will read the text messages...unless I missed something.
