The airbags are in the outboard side of the seat back. Sparco has lots of seats... one problem with such things is the mounting, fit and feel. The OEM Recaro's will be by far the best street solution I'm sure as they are engineered to fit the car, period. Certainly if you are more track oriented you might want a more race type seat (no back adjustment, a shell, etc).

But Sparco's aren't cheap (some of the lesser seats aren't bad, but that's just the seat). No mounting stuff, no sliders, etc. I sell Sparco street and race seats both. They have a bracket to mount them to the car, but by the time you put sliders on it you sit high... a touch too high for my taste @ 6'1" tall.

I want to sit in a Boss and see if I like the seats first.

 

On the sides of the seats on the part that is upright. If you look in the picture below, you can see a tag that says "Airbag". This is the same location as the standard seats in 2010+ Mustangs.

I think I will use regular tires on the track, and then drive back home with the same tires.
Always I have readed in one article or the other, that the handling of the '11 GT Brembo is near neutral w/. mild understeer. And that made me think (without testing it).
Some time ago I bought and readed an excellent book that I still keep, that is called "How to make your car handle", and one of the suggestion to reduce understeer was to Increase weight transfer at rear by increasing rear roll stiffness & to Reduce weight transfer on front by reducing front roll stiffness" as well of other suggestions, and to reduce oversteer was the other way around. I see that the 2012 Boss increased the rear roll stiffness (bigger rear anti-roll bar). That goes with this theory. This kind of confusse me a little, because the suggestions here go in the other direction. Did I miss something?.

On other hand, if the Boss recaro seats are the same than in the '11 GT500. Apparently on the new lighting lap article in car and driver. They talked very bad about them, not able to hold the driver on place. The seats look awsome, but.....?

On another note would it be a good idea to start with sway bars if you like the ride for the most part? Will I really notice a big difference doing them first?

 

Yes you are right, I saw the brochure of the Shelby, they are not the same. I readed an article in Motortrend about the BOSS, and it mentions that the Recaro buckets of the BOSS where designed by the Mustang Team for the GT500.

 

The Recaro seats in the Boss are optional in the 2012 GT500 and will be available as a Ford Racing product as well.

 

Good question what Sparco seat. Any comment on this? Probably the cheapest Tec or r 100.

 

For street driving I've always liked Torino's or Chrono Road's... nice combination of bolstering and comfort.

 

Sparco Milanos are quite nice too...All the adjustments, Memory foam etc. It's like being bolted into the car. I've put these in my last 2 rides...

 

Side airbags became standard in 2009 (?), I believe. You can't get a new car without them now. As others have mentioned, the FRPP Recaros are more of a "performance seat" than an all out racing seat. Still, they look very comfortable and would be fine for me for a daily driver/once-in-a-while track rat. If I were going to track the car often, however, I'd look into something else as they look even heavier than the stock seats. I'm calling $2995 for a set of the FRPP Recaros, MSRP of course.
