Door handle rattles...FIXED!!

I know I'm not the only one to have this problem...so I'm glad to spread word of the solution! Today I finally found that **** rattle in the area of the driver's side interior door handle and I found something very peculiar. As it turns out, the door handle cover isn't one piece like I thought it was. You have the main bezel around it, but then there's actually a backplate as shown here:

When I looked closer I realized that the back plate was very loose (animated gif):
Attachment 35394

So I removed it used some double sided foam tape like this:

And problem solved! No more rattles! Now while I was in there I removed the shift lever boot and added some tape to get rid of that rattle:

And then the same to the A-pillar. Now when I had the A-pillar off I found this. Does anyone have any idea what this is?

thanks for the post & pictures! I have the same A-pillar rattle/squeak, as well as the shifter rubbing that I want to take care of once and for all (was actually considering buying a new boot for it)

As for the spacer you showed above, I have one in my toolbox as well. Never been an issue but I did use some leftover moleskin on the access panel behind the handles.

I have that same rattle... started up when the weather got cold. What is the correct method for removing the backplate (I don't want to break anything) ? Thanks !!

Dido. Mine started rattling too this year when the weather got cold. How did you remove the back plate without breaking it?

Remove the back plate with a small flat screwdriver, apply pressure near the handle mechanism and it pops off. Used self adhesive felt to stop the rattle.

Ditto. Prying in the area by the handle pivot gives you the most space to work with and if you marr the plastic you'll never see it. Just be careful because the plastic is somewhat soft.

Thanks, these 20" rims aren't the most forgiving. I should almost be rattle free!

My hat's off to you too...just did "the door fix" with some of those little stick-on felt pads (the kind used on the bottom of flower vases that protects the furniture).

Yay resurrected thread!

So anyway, I used a square of velcro on the back, centered, and that shut mine up. Both those, and the ones down in the grab handle area.

Now, as to the unanswered question of the golden square thingy in the A-pillar cover? That's a box that happens to, yep, grab onto some velcro... er, hook and loop... that's on the pillar, thereby providing a mid anchor in addition to the big hooks on the dash and the clips higher up.
