Route 66 in our GT/CS April '13

We just completed a vacation to the southwestern US and travelled some portions of Route 66 from TX to Arizona. Here are a few photos: Near Oatman, AZ and the famous steakhouse in Amarillo, TX. Click on the photos to enlarge if you like.

Thanks! Glad the bugs don't show up much on the front bumper. Daily bug cleanings were needed or the car wouldn't be white anymore. It was that bad, but I'm prepared with all the cleaning/detailing equipment I bring along.
Here's another view looking down on the winding Rte 66 from a pullout. This is also outside Oatman, AZ.

Dude, the Sitgreves Pass is some of the best driving, and scenery on Route 66. The last time we went across it was 92 degrees (F), and it was still nice with the top down. Of course when we got into the desert between Oatman, and Needles it was 108. The top went up really quick.

And the bugs...holy crap. In September they have grass hoppers the size of a Huey.

BTW, did ya get the 72 oz. steak.......

Thanks for all the comments guys. It is a fun trip and something we all should experience in a Mustang. It's sad to see some of the past boarded up and deteriorating, but enough still exists to enjoy. If thinking about a trip we would recommend most of the northern Arizona portion. We did a good chunk of it. The weather was perfect in late April before the heat really hits.

No, just this T-bone, about 20 oz. We liked the Rte 66 plates too, which is why we took the picture. (No drooling on the keyboard)

I drove ohio to colorado on 70, picked up 66 to california, back thru arizona in '90, was a great trip- but in a v6 camaro...6000 miles in 10 days, but was one of the most relaxing vacations ever took, get up at about 5, drive till 3 or so, stop somewhere cool, dinner, hotel, repeat... no plan, no schedule...drove into mexico, that was a waste- never again- but aside from that day, it was something cool everyday, and zero pressure to be anywhere. funny, i had that car over 20 years, had under 60k on it when i got rid of it- 10% from just that one trip

I really hope to do it in the mustang(s) someday... either I'll drive, wife will fly meet up out there, or we might caravan- but mileage would sure suck think it would be great though taking a pair cross country... dream on huh? the arizone-california stretch has some neat views, parts of the Rockies in Colorado too
