Sorry, this is rather long but it may be informative. I've posted in another section about my recent experiences and wanted to share this with my fellow GT/CS owners who may be in a similar situation.
Due to the age (6+ years) of my original BF Goodrich tires and some beading issues (leaks) after two of the four tires were patched (nails), I decided to buy a new set of tires. Having had tremendous ownership experiences with Goodyear over the years I decided on the Eagle GT 235/50R18 original size. The Tire Rack price is $170 per tire plus tax and shipping, and a $40 rebate is available until Dec 31. My main concern was the TPMS and whether I should replace the sensors due to battery life. My tire shop (very honest) stated they have seen a 5 -7 year life for these. I was unsure though (and somewhat cheap) hoping otherwise until I found this very informative article: http://www.tirereview.com/article/86...batteries.aspx
I decided that the $200 cost for these quality valve stem sensors with an 8 -10 year life was a no-brainer at this point. Yesterday I had the tires and sensors installed and what a shock. Two of the four sensor bands had come loose inside the tire. I am surprised (and so was the shop) that I didn't hear them hitting inside the tires. I only have 10,000 miles on the car and I have a feeling many other owners may have this same issue without even knowing about it. Be prepared to spend a little extra money next time you need tires. It is just an unfortunate expense that comes with 'newer' cars.
By the way, these Eagle GT tires seem incredible in the wet. I drive home in a pretty bad storm yesterday and the ride home was light years ahead of the ride down in the old BFG tires which still had 50% tread left easily.

I'd just went with new rims and the tpms valve stem sensors, I kept my original rims that have stock band sensors in tact if they ever fail I'd go with valve stem sensors.
car handles extremely well with 10 x18 on the rears & 9x18 on the fronts , got a good price on tires so I went with 275/40ZR 99Y for rear & 255/45 ZR 99Y for the front , they are Michelin Pilot AS3's as we pretty much only get rain here & hardly a luck of snow. on a wet road test they grabbed really really god !

Thanks for the info. I did learn from your link. I've always disliked the TPMS because of the cost to replace them among other reasons

Glad it helped. I wrote this over 2 years ago but it is still just as relevant. Also happy the link still works after all this time.
Since two years has passed I now can update the info on the Goodyears as well. They have been outstanding, just as I expected. Absolutely no issues.

Even better tire's now Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 2's we have a lot of wet weather here in BC so they work very well that I can take a 30 kilo curve @ 90 kilo & not slide . Now I'm told generation 3 are out so they be next

My Goodyears finally wore out and they stopped making them in the size I needed. I went with those new Michelin PS A/S (with the sunflower oil in the tread ) and I can't believe I am saying that they are even better than the Goodyears. I've been in all the weather conditions during our recent trip out west too. Pricey but well worth it.
