Ticking Sound?

Anyone notice a ticking sound coming from their car. Not as much upfront but when you stand to the side. More if the car is hot. Someone on the other forum said something about an Oasis Report and a TBS coming. A few cars are having the issue i guess.

Put me in that boat Joe. When mine idles it shakes the whole car lightly (light but noticable) every few seconds

I've heard that its the fuel injectors, that it's common with Ford engines, and that its not a problem.

This describes mine EXACTLY.

Little shake, little ticky, ticky when hot.

150 miles.

AND....................had to drive it in the rain yesterday. ****.

Thats what I figured which is why I never brought it up. My Mom's 5.0 in her ML500 idles just as rough.

But I will take it in if there's a TSB

This is what John on AFM told me about it.

"Sure Joe,

In my research and experience, there have been the following issues on the 5.0s at idle:

1. I have a sound coming from the bottom right side of the motor at idle. Its a cross between a chirp and a tick. It is very apparent through the passenger wheel well, and it was like that since I got the car with 7.2 miles. When I took it back to the dealer, the tech spent 90 minutes on it, but could not isolate it. He theorized that it was the "chirp" mentioned under the Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) from Ford. Basically, Ford says they are aware of an issue with a chirp coming from the back of the motor or the front of the transmission, and they are working on a solution. Do not attempt repair. Note, I started up another 5.0 on the lot and let it warm to idle, and it made the same sound from the passenger wheel well, just maybe not quite as loud.

2. Some folks are complaining of a "knocking" that can be felt through the gear shift when at idle and the car in first gear. I don't have this one.

3. At least two folks have mentioned another intermittent tick that popped up after changing the oil. I just changed out my oil two days ago, and now I have it intermittently. It is a real tick coming through the driver's wheel well. There is anecdotal evidence that it will go away after the oil ages a little.

Sounds from my car bug the **** out of me, so I find all of this annoying on a brand new $37k car. But, I'm trying not to lose sleep"

I hardly ever hear the tick since I drive with the windows up. Trying to keep the "new car smell" in

I heard an intermittent click from my engine when I was in a drive-thru once. Could really hear it cause I was right next to a wall. I just figured it was the air conditioning cycling, did not think more about it. My idle is fine. The car tremors a little bit, but I expect that. The engine mounts are trying to hold back our 5.0 412HP beast, I dont expect the car to feel like it is not on when the engine is running. Some vibrating is expected and normal.

Agree with all the above.

I used to be really uptite about this stuff but figure it isn't worth getting worked up about. You can always find something to be concerned with and my dealer is top notch so when/if I have a concern I'll run it by them and if they say it, whatever it may be as I haven't noticed anything yet, is normal, I won't worry.

I noticed a tick happening in mine (V6) when I was in a drive thru too. It happened once every 10 seconds or so. I isolated it to happening when the air conditioning/Electronic Climate control was on. When I shut it off...the ticking stopped. When I turned it back on..it started happening again.

I haven't noticed any of this in my car actually, and I'm tempted to keep it that way. If I do figure it out, it'll start bugging me.

There is one sound I've noticed though, but it's so weird and rare that I'm not really sure what to think of it. About once a day maybe, at seemingly random times, I hear from somewhere in the center of the car, a tiny plink that sounds almost exactly like someone flicking a crystal glass. It sounds like it comes from the center console, but it's very clear, almost as if someone flicked a glass right there in the cabin. The nearest I can place it is that it tends to happen mostly when I'm going through a road construction site (which there has been a lot of this week, I passed through three paving operations on the way to work today), when the pirellis are pitching up all the loose gravel on the road. It has never happened twice though, so I don't know, maybe there's a very small metal area that generates the noise when a rock hits it but the chances of that are very small. My driving style seems to have zero influence, happens whether coasting, accelerating, mid-shift, or braking.

Probably the A/C clutch. Normal.
