After bouncing around from different forums, I have been noticing that there are a lot of people having problems with the #8 cylinders and experiencing noises that shouldn't be there. I'm SERIOUSLY contemplating getting into a 2012 5.0, but reading all of these horror stories... im scared of going through with it!

Please reassure me.

In 9 days, I'll have had mine 1 year. True I haven't driven that much, less than 10K miles. I have had nothing but great times from my 302!! Don't listen to me! I'm not that smart @ this stuff!!

The #8 issues "was" from early tuners disabling the knock sensor, or pushing it to far. Don't think there is a issue with it anymore.

And the "ticking" noise was just that, a noise. No problems have been reported from that ticking noise.

My car had the ticking noise and some oil consumption (not leaking) early on, but around 17-18k miles, the oil consumption stopped, and about 20k the ticking stopped. No clutch problems, no transmission problems, no problems in general.

Outside of the ticking, a few #8's from careless aggressive tuning, and oil consumption on some engines early on, this new 5.0 engine has been proving to be very strong and capable.

No problem here. There will always be problems with every model vehicle and with the mustang being an enthusiasts ride the problems will be really vocalized. Im pushing about 600 to the wheels n have had no issues.........yet lol. Get one n you'll love it.

unfortunately or fortunately, the internet makes us hypochondriacs about the car.

if you get one, you will hear or feel something in question, but will it be something to question?

if you've read all the posts since the car came out you will notice that a bunch of questions about the reliability of the car come from new to Mustang owners or folks that are new to cars. It puzzles me how some people don't even know how to check their oil.

No problems here but haul ***!! The early tunes were too lean to get a few more numbers on the dyno and knock sensors disabled and lessons were learned. The top tuners have now made the a/f richer, enabled the knock sensors and no problems.

Very fragile...If you even sneeze, the #8 piston will fly through your hood.

But seriously...The problems are extremely exaggerated. You don't hear from every owner that is enjoying their 5.0L and has no issues, but you definately hear about the few having issues (til their annoying). Mustang owners that participate on message forums are just a very small percentage of owners, and only a small percentage of them have serious problems. If you want one, then get one. At this point, they're as reliable as any other. And they have warranties for a reason...to take care of any problems that may arrise. If you decide to mod the car, then just remember that it can, as with any other car, void your warranty.

Bottom line...If you want one, get one and enjoy it. Don't let the problems of a few cause you to live in fear.

These engines have been supercharged to over 650 hp with no problems. Bad tunes seem to be the biggest 5.0 killers.

Multiple aftermarket companies have pushed the stock engine block and crank to over 1000HP and they're still running great. Don't listen to all the hipe about issues. The #8 issue is a thing of the past. Tuners have got their tunes on lockdown now and no one seems to be having problems. As for the "tick", I've told people to change out all the fluids to better performing fluids and it went away for them.

Man up. Buy the car. Enjoy every minute.

NO problems with the engine!

The rear differential, though, blew out of mine with only 530 mi. on it. FIXED!

My dealer fixed it under warranty within just a few business days, only had to wait for a part to come in. Did not cost me a dime for the repairs or the loaner. It's been running great since!

Wow, thanks everyone... really puts my mind at ease seeing the poll and everyones answers. I guess my stats teacher was right back in college. People usually only air out the bad stuff, only ***** and complain about stuff when it doesn't go their way.

Looks like I need to start deciding on what color to get my 5.0 in...

Yep, the theory is that when people have a good experience, they are likely only to tell 0-2 people, but when they have a bad experience, they are likely to tell 5-10 people, thus the massive complaining on the forums.

I will just chime in for the heck of it. Purchased in Jul 2010, Built 9 Jun 2010. Not a daily driver since I am retired, but almost. 13600+ miles and no problems. It has never used a drop of oil, no ticks (maybe fleas - it is a horse) and the transmission has been almost flawless. It shifts hard in cold weather, until it warms up, but so do I. No squeeks or rattles. Fit and finish is above reproach. The Red Candy Metallic paint is perfect, and believe me I looked when I waxed it the day I bought it.

I am thinking of having the TSB fluid change done, for the MT-82, for the winter since it is a thinner fluid.

I have previously posted I find reasons to drive this car. Any excuse. I have Blizzaks for the winter, on 18" SVT wheels, and really enjoyed being able to take her out, even with snow/ice on the roads.

Buy it, drive it, maintain it and above all enjoy it. These cars love to be driven. Don't make it a garage queen.

Fragile??? This thing rips the pavement like a bat out of hell!!! Sounds a little like a diesel truck but in a weird sort of way I think it sounds cool. Needs some exhaust tweaking so I can really hear that 302 sing!!!!

As you can see you have nothing to worry about.
