Yeah it's an old thread, but thanks Taco Bill for the awesome write up! I had never changed my oil before tonight and your write up gave me the confidence to learn. And holey smokes you weren't kidding about that OEM filter being on tight! Your experience with the oil filter jaws ($3) undoubtedly saved me an hour of aggravation tonight.
One thing for other newbs like myself: make sure your oil drain pan's drain plug is removed. I didn't even think to look at the darn plug in the drain pan - I mean, who the heck would plug a plastic drain pain? Sure enough I had about 2 qts of warm oil all over the already well oiled garage floor, lol. Now I know.
Thanks again Bill!

Back to AutoZone for their large strap type tool.
By the way I also went Fully Synthetic Mobile 1 and it could be my imagination but the engine sounds quieter/smoother when listening with the hood open.

Here is great info on oil filters http://www.knizefamily.net/minimopar...ers/index.html The mobil 1 and the k&n are made by same company. Think I'm sticking with Motorcraft.
