Take a look at the 5 or 6 post I've put up about battery issues. I’m waiting right this second for the shuttle to come pick me up so I can retrieve my car from the dealer. They have replaced the head unit because the CD player died (1). I hope they are right and that the new head unit will also fix my battery drain issue. I'll be going out of town for a week coming up soon and I'll let everyone know if it did the trick...

1. CD player seems to cycle when the battery gets low, even when the car is off... One solution is to keep CD’s out of the CD player... I’ll get back to you all in March upon my test week.

I've been there 3 times now. First time they gave me a new battery. Second time they didn't find anything wrong with it, but it died after 7 days sitting (just one month after the new battery was installed). Third time they discovered the Nav system was drawing power periodically, but since I didn't get it from an authorized dealer (got it from e-bay) they wouldn't fix it under warantee. I've got the Shaker back in now, and so far I haven't had any problems, but I haven't let it sit for more than 36 hours since then.

I'd try for a new battery first, and second the Battery Tender suggestion.

The CD player will cycle through its bays even if you have no CD's in it.. it's just a feature of poor engineering. Whenever the power is low or power is reintroduced, the CD player will cycle through all 6 bays to detect which bays are filled.

As I intend to contact both manufacturers, for further product info.
Thanks Rocky I appreciate your looking those over and your advice

I thank you as well Lynda, for I'll definitely be looking into both models for my Mustang. In the meantime, I've been using a 1.5 Amp tender charger a little over 2 years now. But I also want a portable charger, in the event the Stang requires sitting outside, for more than 5-10 days.

Talking

Problem solved, well at least for me. After having a nice conversation with representative at the dealership the dealer has become very responsive. I was honest with the dealer representative that calls to check about your resent service. I indicated that I was always happy with the service but expressed my frustration with the battery going dead in as little as 3 to 4 days. I was real honest about my situation and that I did not blame them for the ongoing dead battery issues. It’s a product issue, i.e. Fords problem. However, I can’t drive to Michigan every time I have a problem so they are who I have to work with. I simply stated that I understood that the dealer did what they could based on how they get paid for warranty work. I told her that this was the third time in and I really just need to have it documented, i.e. that the car was fine based on their view. I told her the reason was for escalation purposes to Ford or lemon law. She appreciated the fact that I did not try and shoot the messenger and did not take it out on the service reps and said if it not fixed to please give them another try and they would then assist in escalation.

If you follow my other post on the topic I had to take it back in after 3 days, it died. This time (number 4 officially) they gave me a rental and called in a field agent. They told me they tested the battery 5 times. Apparently, the dealer has some type of system that they need to get an error code from in order to have Ford approve the warranty of a new battery. 5 times the got an OK on the battery, the field tech left the lights (drain test, novelty idea) on for 10 minutes and they tested the battery again. On the 6th time they got the code they needed. More importantly, I got a type 40 instead of the type 96. The 40 is what should have been in my car all along based on my research. The battery gave them a code that it had a bad cell. Why on earth it took so much to get to this point I don’t know.

Ok, like I said it works now. I left town on a Saturday and by the following Sunday she fired up as strong as if she’d just sat overnight. I have a 14 day trip coming up in July. That will be the big test.

Long and the short, be honest, be kind (but assertive), and be persistent. Understand the process and your options for escalation.

Having experienced this issue over the summer, I am going to test the radio theory and see if shutting it off before turning off the car. Irregardless, I hope I do not have to play games with my dealer if this persists.
