Electric 1960s Mustang Packs a Shocking 402 HP
Mustang EVs are a sure way to ignite an Internet war, but it’s hard to argue with a classic Stang that can do 0-60 in 3.1 seconds.
All-electric vehicles, as a whole, have garnered quite the following in recent years. So much so that it’s to the point where some believe the day will come when the internal combustion engine may no longer be a viable source of power. Of course, we hope that day will never come. But we also appreciate the benefits of EVs, especially their incredible torque and unbeatable acceleration. All of this falls on deaf ears when it comes to classic or modern Mustang models, of course.
As we’ve seen in the past, the simple mention of an EV Mustang is enough to draw out keyboard warriors by the thousands. And we get it, the Mustang is an iconic car we celebrate for its style. Most importantly, it’s (largely) V8 power. But if an all-electric Mustang is going to exist (and it will), it should look and perform like this 1960s-era replica built by U.K. company Charge Automotive.
On the outside, this Mustang looks like a nicely executed ’60s-era restomod. But it is essentially an all-new car, from the sheetmetal to the chassis. Unlike most classic Mustangs, it’s also powered by two electric motors that pack a combined output of 402 hp and 885 lb-ft of torque. And that’s good enough to propel this beastly ride to 62 mph in just 3.1 seconds.
The only downside here, aside from the lack of a guttural V8 sound, is range. With just a 64 kWh battery pack, the Charge is good for just 124 miles of range. But oh, what a fun 124 miles it’ll be. It’s also available in rear or all-wheel drive and fastback or convertible body styles.
This pony car from the past/future ships in September of 2019. Charge is building 499 of them at the cool starting price of $255,509. If this looks like your cup of tea, you can reserve your all-electric classic Mustang for a “mere” $6,388 by heading over here.
