Eleanor Ford Mustang 1967 GT500 Tribute Buster Posey Barrett Jackson

Sexy 1967 Mustang owned by San Francisco Giants superstar Buster Posey has Eleanor styling and an 800 horsepower surprise under the hood.

The Eleanor name and styling is an interesting topic to discuss. We could sit and stew on the countless lawsuits regarding the copyright infringement incidents resulting in people having their cars taken away, but we’ll keep it light on this one. Eleanor is the name given to the 1967 Mustang “GT500” depicted in the 2000 thriller Gone In 60 Seconds. Though this version of Eleanor does not resemble the one from the original Gone In 60 Seconds, made on a shoestring budget in the 1970s, it stands out as an icon of automotive cinema. So naturally, folks started building replicas and tributes. This is, undoubtedly, one of the coolest ones we have ever seen.

Set to sell at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale 2022 event at the end of January, this 1967 Mustang is a stunner. However, it isn’t just the Eleanor style that gives this thing some awesome street cred. MLB legend Buster Posey had this fantastic tribute built by East Bay Muscle Cars. The three-time World Series champ didn’t settle for the “lowly” 427 engine. Instead, this Mustang has a massive displacement powerplant making enough power to make your eyes water.

Big Block With Even Bigger Displacement

Under the hood sits a Jon Kaase Racing Boss Nine engine. It has a massive displacement of 572 cubic inches. Furthermore, the engine block is aluminum, and it has a fully forged rotating assembly with diamond-coated pistons. Accompanying the gorgeous velocity-stack intake system is full electronic fuel injection. It has Borla 58mm throttle bodies, aluminum cylinder heads, and a Holley ECU. The resulting power from this combination is a heart-stopping 828 horsepower and 780 pound-feet of torque. Of course, with the Billet Specialities accessories, shiny fuel rails, and intake system, and a big aluminum radiator, this engine bay looks pretty phenomenal too!

The power finds its way to the rear wheels through a Bowler Performance built 4L80E transmission and a Wavetrac 3.50 differential. Furthermore, this car features independent rear suspension and fully adjustable coilover suspension on all four corners. It also has 13-inch brake rotors, six-piston front calipers, and four-piston rear calipers. This thing is ready to boogie.

No Part of This Eleanor Is Untouched

East Bay Muscle Cars moved the firewall back five inches and relocated the strut towers to accommodate this swap. So effectively, this Mustang is on an entirely new chassis.

Inside it has beautiful black Italian leather Corbeau racing seats with black Italian leather upholstery throughout the cabin to match. Additionally, the rear seats sit four inches further back than stock, allowing for passengers to actually sit in them.

Effectively, this is an entirely modern and new car inside and out. It has all the styling of the iconic GT500 blending perfectly with modern technology not only to make a massive amount of power but put it down safely. This is a textbook restomod with no expense spared. So, we can only imagine it’s going to fetch an insane price at auction. We’ll definitely be keeping an eye out to see what the hammer price is!
