Ford Dealer Wrecks Colorado Man’s New Mustang GT

Mechanic needed to ‘test drive’ Mustang GT with its dealer-installed supercharger to ensure it was in working order. Then this happened.

We’ve all seen this type of horror story. A dealer employee takes a joy ride in someone’s hot car and somehow manages to write the thing off. But in this instance, according to The Drive, things are a bit different.

Stories often have two sides. On one side we have the car owner, Mark Grage, and the other from the Loveland Ford dealership manager, Harry Johnston. Things started out peachy. Grage had been a loyal customer of Loveland Ford and had purchased a Mustang GT anticipating a dealer-installed Roush blower to be added. During a shakedown test drive, things went very wrong, very fast. The above photo says it all.

In a Facebook post, Grage accused the dealerships mechanics of taking the car on a joy ride. Understandably upset, he expressed his displeasure assuming that employee still worked at the dealership. Grage also explained he would no longer be returning there for business due to their unprofessionalism.

Johnston had a bit more to share from the dealership side. He told The Drive, “the technician was cited for careless driving by police and no longer works for the dealership.” In terms of professionalism, Johnston also propped up his dealership saying that things took a few days due to some complications. The car was under Grage’s name so the dealership couldn’t pay off the loan, and had to wait for insurance to kick in. “He actually walked out of the store with plus money as opposed to what he [had invested in] the car, and he bought another new car from us,” Johnston explained.

That other “new” car was actually a 2016 Mustang with Shelby parts on it. Grage insists the car was not free, and that he is paying for it. That makes sense, because part of the delay in paperwork came from paying off the loan for the new Mustang GT. He’s still paying for a car, just a different car.

In all, we feel sorry for everyone involved in this situation because there’s no way it could come out good for anyone. The fired employee who wrecked the Mustang is lucky to be un-injured. Loveland Ford is having to deal with some harsh kick-back after trying to set things straight and Grage doesn’t get the car he set his sights on. Let’s just hope this kind of nightmare doesn’t happen to our forum members.
