Cobra Jet 50th Anniversary Reunion Coming to Ohio, Aug. 23
NMCA All-American Nationals will host the golden anniversary of the Mustang Cobra Jet during competitions at Summit Motorsports Park.
Ever since the 1968 National Hotrod Association (NHRA) Winternationals, there have been quite a few Mustangs to have received a major dose of cobra DNA on the way out of the factory, all bearing the Cobra Jet name. Each CJ’s goal has been the same: inject their deadly venom into the hearts of every competitor on the drag strip.
Thus, what better way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Cobra Jet than during a weekend of nitromethane-fueled, ear-splitting, earth-shaking action on the quarter-mile? The National Muscle Car Association’s (NMCA) All-American Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio will be the backdrop for the 50th Anniversary Ford Performance Cobra Jet Reunion when the party comes to town August 23 through 26.
Presented by Tasca Parts, the reunion will give one and all a once in a lifetime opportunity “to witness 50 years of Cobra Jet powered vehicles and meet Cobra Jet royalty, the people who developed and maintained this incredible factory-built Blue Oval platform.” Aside from the tens of Mustangs and other Fords and Mercurys to bear the mark of the CJbattling on the strip for the “King of the Cobra Jets” crown, hundreds more will have their own “snake pit,” welcome to both numbers-correct and tributes of the famed CJ.
There will also be a handful of history-making Cobra Jets on display, from the very first from 1968, to the 50th anniversary 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet, designed to kill its prey in around eight seconds with help from its 5.2-liter supercharged Coyote V8.
And of course, what’s better than seeing CJs? Meeting CJ legends likeĀ Roy Hill, Jacky Jones, Al Joniec, and more.
All in all, this is the way to celebrate the golden anniversary of one of the most hardcore legends in Ford’s racing and performance history, the Cobra Jet. If you want to be a part of it, you’ll have to pre-register here. There are lots of ways to go, with admission ranging from $60 to $200. Should you just want to see the Cobra Jet Fords and Mercurys at the nationals, though, a standard fan credential ranges from $25 for a single day, to $45 for two days; kids under 12 get in free. Those tickets will be available at the gate.
