2018 Mustang SEMA Build by ‘Young Gun’ Brad DeBerti
Here’s a SEMA build that puts the ‘wide’ in ‘wide-open throttle.’
The SEMA show in Las Vegas is the place to be for new builds, new cars, and all sorts of automotive innovations. You’ll see stuff that you won’t ever see anywhere else — and the Battle of the Builders is the highlight for custom builders from around the world. One of the coolest contenders this year is a 2018 Mustang GT customized by Young Gun Brad DeBerti.
What is “Young Gun”?
If you’re not familiar with SEMA or the Battle of the Builders, Young Gun is a title given to builders under the age of 27 who enter a car into the competition. It’s designed to help encourage younger builders to enter, and to inspire future industry icons, according to SEMA’s website on the battle.
Brad DeBerti’s Mustang
We’re all familiar with the classic lines and appearance of a Mustang, but Brad DeBerti’s custom build is like nothing we’ve ever seen. It takes the Mustang’s wide, low body and makes it even wider and even lower. This is part aesthetics and part necessity — the body had to be made wider to fit the massive Mickey Thompson 18-inch rear tires.
The base for this build is the 2018 Mustang GT Fastback, but it’s also been outfitted with a performance Borla exhaust, a custom independent rear suspension from Watson Racing, and adjustable struts and springs from H&R Performance.
The interior of the build is all style — the amps for the custom sound system had to go in the trunk because there was no room in the interior because of all the speakers!
According to DeBerti, they replaced the back window with ½-inch thick bulletproof glass, not because they were worried about getting into a high-speed gunfight, but because he’s expecting the tricked-out sound system to blow out the rear windshield.
The SEMA Battle of the Builders show aired on January 2nd and 3rd, so look for reruns to catch up on all the action.
