Watch this Turbocharged Mustang Shred its Tires in Texas

By -

We don’t know a lot about this car, and frankly, we don’t care. All we know is that it’s a beast.

Much of the country may be getting pummeled by a “Bomb Cyclone” and its arctic air, but apparently, San Antonio Raceway never got the memo. Held on the final weekend of 2017, Winter Meltdown 2 pit some of the craziest drag cars in the country against each other. Needless to say, the results were spectacular.

No drag weekend would be complete without plenty of Mustangs. Thankfully, the event didn’t disappoint. In this very brief clip from HighAltitude Videos, we see several ‘Stangs of recent vintage, from a silver Fox Body to a few SN95s. But the unquestioned star of the show here is this sinister yellow New Edge drag car.

A turbocharged New Edge Cobra at San Antonio Raceway.

Thanks to the brevity of the video and an almost total lack of dialogue (aside from some comments we can’t reprint after one SN95 pilot almost loses control of his car), we don’t know much about this car. It’s called a GT in the video’s title, but it’s wearing a Cobra bumper and SVT badges. And, of course, it’s turbocharged. Still, we love seeing it decimate just about everything it runs against. It’s incredibly loud, and its loping idle would be enough to scare the pants off of all but the most seasoned drag racers.

But the real thing of beauty here is the way it launches. There’s a parachute mounted out back, right over a license plate, suggesting thatthis thing is street legal. Even though it isn’t used here, it’s easy to envision a situation where the chute would be a necessity.

Seeing this mystery Mustang light up the quarter-mile at San Antonio Raceway is something we could watch all day. In fact, we might just do that, at least until the weather gets better. Do you know anything about this wild Mustang? Let us know in the comments.
