1966 Ford Mustang

Lovely first-gen Mustang convertible has its original inline-six and a black interior, is a ‘nice driver’ for those autumn nights.

Have you felt a change in the air lately? Have you noticed the sunsets are coming earlier and earlier nowadays? Have you spotted any pumpkin spice lattes and Christmas trees yet? Soon enough, the summer you’ve enjoyed will fade into the falling leaves and cooler days of autumn, meaning your Mustang will have to get ready for the chill to come.

Autumn, however, also means the end of the Carlisle Events show season, and what better way to wrap things up than by checking out cars like this 1966 Mustang up for grabs at Carlisle Auctions’ two-day affair, set for October 3 and 4 inside the Carlisle Expo Center?

Motivating this candy apple Mustang is its original 200 cubic inch “Thriftpower” inline-six, which made 120 ponies and 190 lb-ft of torque in its day. That’s not a lot of power, and it likely makes less now, but it’s certainly one of more chill convertible horses still roaming the highways to this day.

Underneath the cream white cloth top is an all-black interior with access to the three-speed automatic ferrying those little Mustangs to the rear stock wheels wrapped in narrow whitewall tires. And speaking of the tires, there’s a full-size spare in the trunk, laid upon the green checkerboard trunk floor cover. All in all, this machine looks more or less like it did when it was bought off the showroom floor all those decades ago.

The candy apple-cream white-black Mustang is just one of over 500 vehicles expected to hit the block over the two-day auction. The auction itself is in the middle of the Fall Carlisle, scheduled for October 2 through 6 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, which is the last Carlisle affair for the year.

The six-day extravaganza is anchored by a massive flea market, with 8,100 spaces full of vendors selling anything and everything you can think of for your Mustang, from that key fob you’ve been hunting down for a while, to big engine parts to improve your pony’s performance. There’s also a car corral, where all you need to buy a new Mustang for your corral is a checkbook, and even a trivia night.

Admission to the Fall Carlisle is $35 for the full extravaganza. Single-day tickets are $12 Wednesday to Saturday, $7 on Sunday, and children under 12 enter free with a paying adult.
