Can a Mustang GT Outperform a Bowler Bulldog Off-roader?

By -

England’s Bowler Bulldog is a brute of an off-roader, but the GT is a brutal top-end performer in it’s own right.

Apples. Oranges. Completely different yet both delicious. That’s the same that can be said about the Mustang GT and the Bowler Bulldog. The Mustang GT we all know and love, but the Bowler Bulldog – a British purpose built off-roader might be new to some readers. It uses the supercharged V8 from a Land Rover, has all-wheel-drive and is literally built for racing. The Bulldogs specializes in grip on loose surfaces and huge acceleration in a sacrifice to top speed. As such, comparing these is almost like comparing mountain climbing to the 100-meter sprint.

Having a 100 horsepower advantage, the first race from a dig was easily handed to the Bulldog. Video host Mat Watson noted on the launch the Mustang was “spinning… Oh it’s struggling with traction!” That’s not much of a surprise on an unprepped surface. Win one for the Bowler. So how do they get on in a roll race?

The roll race would start from 50 miles per hour. Mysteriously, Watson decides to leave the Mustang GT in all of its normal modes. One would think that you’d put it in sport or hold in a manually selected gear to make things fair. We suspect this British YouTube channel wanted the home team to win. Watson states the obvious; “Wow he kicked down so much quicker! I want to see what speed I finally catch him!” That speed ended up being 140 miles per hour.

Perhaps more efficient use of the binders is where the Mustang GT can show supremacy. Yes the Bulldog is heavier, but surprisingly, not by much. The test was a panic stop from 70 miles-per-hour. This time the win was very clear for the Mustang. Watson notes of the previously victorious Bowler; “Not so good at stopping now, is it?”

The Bowler also would certainly lose when it comes to performance per dollar. The Mustang is only £45,000 where as the Bulldog will take a healthy £135,000 out of your bank account. And you have to navigate the Bowler’s roll cage every time you drive it, and it is loud and uncomfortable. And let’s just agree the Mustang GT is a far better value. Apples for us, please.
