The Mustang Source Looks Back at a Monumental 2019

2019 year review The Mustang Source

From Bullitt Special Editions to GT500s, 2019 was a great year for the Ford Mustang. Let’s took a look back on an incredible year.

If 2019 seemed to go by in a blur to you, you’re not alone. At The Mustang Source,  It seemed like we were just starting to get excited about the new Bullitt Mustang and then in an instant, we were presented with the Mach-E. The year was also somber, as we lost someone who was arguably the driving force behind the Mustang, though the legacy and memories he leaves are sure to make any enthusiast smile.

What will 2020 bring? Well, we know Ford is pretty good at keeping secrets. We could have even more special packages and editions for the Mustang through 2020. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Here’s to a great year ahead!

Saleen Returns with the 30th Anniversary Mustang

2019 year review The Mustang Source

Saleen has had some “adjustments” lately, but they are back in form with Steve Saleen back at the helm. The 30th Anniversary Mustang you see above is the high horsepower Saleen, with 730 horsepower (and more for the track). Just like before, you can order one through a Ford dealer, get financing and a warranty. Welcome back, Mr. Saleen!

2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt Up Close and Personal

2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt

When we got our hands on the Bullitt Mustang, we were tingling with excitement. The Bullitt is more powerful and has revised chassis tuning over the Mustang GT which really makes the Dark Highland Green Mustang seem worlds apart from its GT sibling. At $51,200, some may scoff at the price, but what else can you get with 480 horsepower and this much charm for that MSRP?

Mustang Clinches 4th-consecutive ‘Best-selling Sports Coupe’ Title

2019 year review The Mustang Source

There’s never been any doubt that the Ford Mustang outsells its competition many times over. For 2018, 113,066 Mustangs were sold across the globe, and we anticipate that once all the numbers are in, 2019 sales will meet or exceed that figure.  After all, over a half million current generation Mustangs have been sold since being introduced in 2015.

Mustang Is the No. 1 Most Instagrammed Car Ever

2019 year review The Mustang Source

If you were impressed by the story above regarding 2018 sales numbers, then knowing that the Mustang is the most Instagrammed car ever won’t be much of a shock. With nearly 12 million mentions on Instagram, the Mustang was the clear leader. The second place car? Honda’s Civic, with a paltry 7.4 million.

BREAKING: 2020 Shelby GT500 Has 760 Horsepower, 625 lb-ft of Torque

2019 year review The Mustang Source

The biggest news story of 2019 had to be Shelby’s GT500. We waited with great anticipation to hear the competition crushing numbers from this beast and we weren’t disappointed.  Horsepower numbers came in at 760, and torque is rated at 647. This was enough, Ford claimed, to get the GT500 into the 10 second range at the strip. They were right.

Legendary Ford President Lee Iacocca Passes Away at 94

2019 year review The Mustang Source

In 1964, Time Magazine crowned him “Man of the Year.” A worthy title, as Lee Iacocca held the leading role in putting the Ford Mustang into production. Without Iacocca, our favorite pony car simply wouldn’t exist. On July 2, sadly, Iacocca passed at the age of 94. He will be greatly missed, although we are happy his legacy lives on.

All-new 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series Mustang Ready to Shake & Bake

2019 year review The Mustang Source

Ford’s NASCAR racer got a refresh in 2019 showcasing what the racer will look like in 2020. Ford Design and Ford Performance Technical Center put the package together. Mustangs have performed well in past seasons of NASCAR, so there’s no reason why this can’t do the same. February of 2020 will be our first time to see it turn a wheel in anger at the Daytona 500.

Mach-E Is Finally Here, ‘GT Performance Edition’ Drops Spring 2021

2019 year review

If you thought we’d get through a year review without mentioning the Mach-E, well, sorry. We kinda have to. The polarizing SUV has made a splash with its name and its tech, but it’s still far too early to see just how much we will end up loving it. Perhaps we’ll give it a chance.

Yes, Ford Will Produce an Actual Electric Mustang

2019 year review

A little bit less polarizing is a possible full EV Mustang, rather than a crossover Mustang. Ford’s “Lithium” concept at SEMA touted an all electric Mustang with mind-boggling power numbers. On tap would be 900 horsepower and 1000 lb/ft of torque. Those are numbers that we can live with.

Stock 2020 Shelby GT500 Sets a World Record at the Drag Strip

2019 year review

When Ford made the claim that the Shelby GT500 would be an 11 second or quicker car, we believed them. The power numbers were certainly there. But some company jargon could mean it’ll do a 10.99 in absolutely perfect conditions. Little did we know that a stock GT500 could dive deep into the 10 second range.  One YouTuber set a record in his stock Shelby. The time? A blistering 10.66 seconds.

Shelby GT350 Heritage Edition Celebrates 55-year Le Mans Legacy

2019 year review

Ford announced late this year that they would produce a Shelby GT350 Heritage Edition Package for 2020. Celebrating 55 years of the GT350, this new Shelby has upgrades to suspension with MagneRide shocks, new front-end suspension geometry, and ABS designed to whoa down this fast pony. We anticipate the Heritage Edition Package will be popular with the GT350 and GT350R because it only costs $1,965 to add it.
