Buy This Original Mustang GT350 R Before I Rob a Bank
In 1965, Shelby American built 34 examples of the Mustang GT350 R. They were built primarily to take on everything that showed up to the track for SCCA racing. And you know what? They dominated. For three consecutive years the Mustang GT350 R was king, and it’s easy to see why.
The Mustang GT350 R built upon Carroll Shelby’s racecar engineering. It combined a lightweight Mustang chassis with a 325 horsepower 289 V8 and a trick suspension. The car was essentially lightning on the track, nothing could stop them.
This example though is quite special. Being auctioned off next month by RM, this 1965 Mustang GT350 R has a storied racing past. It won its division title in 1966, raced at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1967, and won its class at the 12 Hours of Sebring the same year.
Early auction estimates put this car’s value between $850,000 and $1,000,000, but it could definitely go higher if the right two buyers are in the room. Especially since the new GT350 Rs are coming out very soon.
So what do you all think? If you could either buy this pristine original GT350 R, or about 15 of the new ones, which do you pick?
