Might be the most expensive 2003 Mustang GT offered for sale anywhere.

The Mustang world was a very different place back in 2003. The new Terminator Cobra was the hottest thing on the street, while Saleen, Roush, and Steeda were also more than happy to feed your need for horsepower. In retrospect, it wasn’t a bad time to be a Mustang fan.

Back in those days, Boyd Coddington was a name that demanded respect. He more or less ushered in the era of high-tech, high-dollar hot rods. In the years since, that scene has done everything possible to distance themselves from that style. However, the Boyd style was the peak of cool for hot rodders in 2003.

That same year, Boyd customized a handful of Roush Stage 3 Mustangs, and the result is the car you see here. According to the listing on Carfax, it’s one of only five produced like this, out of a total of 48.

The Boyd trademarks are here – two-tone paint, polished billet aluminum wheels, and a matching interior. The rest of the car is all Roush, although we did spot some Steeda floor mats in there, too.

This was certainly one of the most eye-catching Mustangs offered for sale in 2003. However, times change, and now this Mustang is out of style like Limp Bizkit and Myspace.

That hasn’t stopped the owner from asking nearly $45,000 for this piece of Mustang history. That’s by far the most expensive New Edge we’ve seen for sale recently. Even Competition Orange Terminators and 2000 Cobra Rs don’t often see quite this much money these days.

To this car’s credit, it’s spent its whole life in sunny, salt-free Florida, and has covered just 2,000 miles since new. It’s truly a time capsule back to the days of JNCO jeans and frosted tips.

Unfortunately, we doubt enough time has passed for people to be nostalgic for this time period. We were there, and despite that, we’re not quite ready to part with $45,000 to bring this one home, despite the addition of a supercharger and plenty of other high performance goodies.
