Awesome Mustangs From Mecum Auctions In Kissimmee

Over 200 Mustangs crossed the block at Mecum Auctions in Kissimmee Florida, and we picked a few that are our favorites.

Unique, rare and interesting Mustangs always seem to get our attention. So when we poured over the list of over 200 Mustangs at the recent Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, Florida, we had our work cut out for picking our favorites. Yes, the BOSS 429‘s are an easy choice, as are faithfully reproduced Eleanor clones. Those are well known.

Instead, we wanted to pick some of the lesser known, and more unique rides. Special editions. 1-of-1 sorts of rides. So without any real order of importance, we present to you this list. The only criteria? If the Mustang in question makes you say “that’s cool!”

1990 FORD MUSTANG LX 7-UP EDITION CONVERTIBLE

Lot number T117.1 definitely has some cool undeniable cool factor. Outside of it being a low mileage and clean Fox, it’s also a rare 7-UP edition convertible. You won’t find anything on the outside that bears the name of the zesty lime beverage, though. This Deep Emerald Jewel Green Mustang exists because of a promo event put on by NCAA basketball league. Folks were supposed to win a Mustang if they got nothing-but-net from half court. The event was pulled well before anyone lined up for a shot, and Ford turned lemons (and limes) into a pseudo 25th anniversary Mustang. Only 4,103 were made.

1969 FORD MUSTANG MACH 1 FASTBACK

Black Jade, in our opinion, is one of the best colors to ever grace a classic Mustang. Some may disagree, and that’s OK because they are wrong. In all seriousness, the color Black Jade is a mysterious one. In person, it is very evidently green. To any photographer though, it’s quite challenging to capture just how well the metallic flake accents the car’s lines. Plus, this is an R-code 428 Cobra. Lot W261 is easily a favorite Mecum Mustang.

1993 FORD MUSTANG SVT COBRA

Low mile Fox Body Mustangs are a treasure. Make them a last-year SVT Cobra and you have a truly special car on your hands. With just 3,765 miles, this 1993 Mustang is a time capsule. In total 4,993 SVT’s were made, with under a third of those being teal. And of those, only about 800 were made with the Opal interior. These SVT Mustangs, much like lot T178.1 are expected to be the first Fox Body Mustangs to break into the 6-figure mark with ease.

1970 FORD MUSTANG MACH 1 TWISTER SPECIAL FORD TEST VEHICLE

Just like the 7-UP edition Fox, this 1969 Twister edition Mach 1 wasn’t really meant to be. It was cobbled together (in the best way possible) and made as a special edition car after plans for a pace car edition fell through. Instead of a pace car, 96 folks got to drive a Twister Special Mach 1. Essentially a decal kit, some had the 428 Super Cobra Jet engine, and others had the 351. But they all had Grabber Orange paint. A perfect car for Tornado Alley, as they were sold mainly in Kansas. Lot T150.1 is unique, as it is the test vehicle for the run of special editions.

1968 FORD MUSTANG GT FASTBACK NHRA RACER

We like cars with a little extra performance, too so this NHRA Sportsman Mustang GT was an easy pick for us. Better yet, it started life as a true R-code Cobra Jet, confirmed by a Marti report. This car was originally special ordered in 1969, and as time went on, it got more and more performance additions. But it only racked up 5,230 miles. That might actually mean lot K239 was a dedicated racer, and just so happened to make hundreds of passes!
