Aston Martin V12 Powered Fox Body Mustang Is up and Running
This Aston Martin V12-powered Fox Body Mustang has been under the knife for a while, but now, it’s moving under its own power.
These days, the Fox Body Mustang is one of the more coveted vehicles on the planet, thanks to strong interest from those of us that grew up either owning one or simply wishing we did. With values soaring – especially for lower-mile, nicely-kept examples – the Fox Body Mustang even got a big nod from the automaker itself recently in the form of the brand new FX package, which adds a variety of Fox-inspired styling elements to the S650 generation model. However, this particular Fox Body Mustang is truly one of a kind, thanks to its new beating heart.
The folks behind the Stay Tuned YouTube channel apparently weren’t satisfied with motivating their Fox Body Mustang with a regular old 5.0-liter V8, nor the newer Coyote or even a Godzilla. Rather, they opted to stuff a 5.9-liter V12 sourced from an Aston Martin Vantage under the hood of the 1989 LX, which was originally equipped with the 5.0 and five-speed manual. In this case, that exotic powerplant – which churned out 420 horsepower when new – is mated to a Tremec T56 six-speed manual gearbox, too.
This project actually began back in December 2023, and it wound up taking roughly a year and a half to get buttoned up and running, which isn’t surprising given the fact that, well, we’re pretty sure no one has ever attempted to stuff an Aston V12 in a Fox Body pony car before. While it might seem a bit sacrilegious, we can at least take some solace in the fact that Ford owned Aston Martin from 1987-2007, so there’s certainly a connection here, and the Mustang itself was a bit of a basket case when Stay Tuned acquired it, too.
There are still some bugs to sort out, but the Aston-powered pony car is at least moving down the road under its own power at this point, and it sounds pretty wicked breathing through a more open set of pipes, too. While some will undoubtedly scoff at such a combination, we think that this V12-powered Mustang is a pretty cool piece, and we highly doubt there will be anything out there like it for the foreseeable future, to boot.
