It just doesn’t get much sadder than this, not just for Mustang enthusiasts, but for decent, caring human beings.

A 69-year-old Army veteran and his 66-year-old wife, both known for their charitable works throughout the community, were found dead in Georgia after allegedly being killed by a man who claimed to be selling a 1966 Ford Mustang.

According to a Huffington Post report, the incident happened after Elrey “Bud” Runion posted an add on Craigslist looking to buy a replica of the ’66 convertible Mustang he bought for himself upon returning home from the Vietnam War.

The suspected killer, 28-year-old Ronnie Adrian “Jay” Towns, allegedly convinced Elrey and his wife, June, to meet under the premise Towns had a ’66 Mustang to sell. Officials haven’t disclosed many of the particulars, but they do believe Towns was planning to rob the Runions all along.

Towns reportedly turned himself into authorities at the urging of his family.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Bud and June’s ministry, Forever Grateful Ministries, those wishing to make a donation are encouraged to do so here.
