Ford Mustang GTD 20224 Goodwood Festival of Speed Hill Climb

Making its public driving debut, the Ford Mustang GTD lights up its tires before showing off its aggressive, supercharged V8 sound.

The Ford Mustang GTD shocked the world when it was revealed months ago as the ultimate pony car – one stuffed with race car tech like its wild, lightweight and aerodynamic bodywork, its 800+ horsepower supercharged V8, and a pretty trick suspension, to boot. Unfortunately, the Ford Mustang GTD will be out of reach of most – after all, one has to apply for the privilege of spending over $300k to bring one home – but we mere mortals can at least watch the supercar in action and dream, no?

The Ford Mustang GTD recently made its first public appearance at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and did so in two different flavors – one, displayed in the Supercar Paddock finished in Chroma Red (which was just revealed a few weeks ago), while another blue example tackled the legendary Goodwood Hill Climb with Ford Multimatic Motorsports Mustang GT3 driver Frédéric Vervisch behind the wheel, as we can see in this video.

Running in the Batch 6A class against similar production supercars, the Ford Mustang GTD was also marking the first time the new model has participated in a public driving event, too. This was merely an on-road demo of sorts over the short, 1.2-mile course, but it’s still an absolute blast to see this amazing machine in action. Vervisch kicks things off by simply lighting up the tires as the fortified V8 bounces off the limiter, leaving a trail of smoke behind him as he squirrels his way past the start line.

The GTD sounds incredible as it makes its way up the circuit, and looks pretty amazing in this particular shade of blue, too. During this particular series of debuts, Ford also revealed that the GTD won’t just be offered in six standard colors, either – rather, it will also offer a very Porsche-like Extended Color Palette program for the car as well, which basically gives customers the opportunity to choose just about any hue they like for their new machine – so long as Mustang GTD Concierge team can make it happen.

Even better, customers can also opt for what Ford is calling the Exclusive Extended Color Palette Lock-Out Option, which allows them to choose a color and then bar anyone else from applying that same hue to their own GTD. It isn’t likely that Ford Mustang GTD owners will see another GTD while they’re tooling around town in any given part of the world, but in this case, it ensures that there won’t be another one identical to it, regardless.
