Godzilla-Powered Fox Body Mustang

Fresh off a twin turbo Godzilla swap, this wild-looking Fox Body Mustang shows its incredible potential on the dyno.

While Coyote swaps have been all the rage for many years now, a new contender has emerged in that regard – Ford’s 7.3-liter Godzilla V8. First introduced in the 2020 Super Duty, the Godzilla is what many have been asking for for years now – a good old fashioned pushrod V8 that’s simple and reliable. Turns out, this particular engine is also exceptional at making big power with simple mods, and that has also made it a popular target among drag racers and those simply looking for a great powerplant for their older ride. That group includes YouTuber Cleetus McFarland, who recently took his Godzilla-powered Fox Body Mustang to the dyno.

With a goal of taking his latest build to Sick Week 2023 for some drag racing action, McFarland and his crew have been working on this Fox Body Mustang – dubbed “McFlurry” – for a while now, and are currently in the process of dialing it in, working out the bugs, and extracting as much power as possible from its modern engine, which in stock form is rated to produce 430 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque.

Of course, McFarland hasn’t left the big motor alone, instead fitting it with a pair of turbos and various other mods, with the intentions of also running methanol at some point in the near future. On this particular day, the Fox Body Mustang does impressive work on the dyno, gaining power with each tweak the team performs. Flowing through a Lenco racing transmission, the car lays down 553 horsepower on its first attempt, but better things are yet to come.

The Fox immediately shows improvement by recording 593 horsepower on the next run, followed by a much better 731 raging ponies. That’s good enough for McFarland to call it a day, particularly as there’s still much work to be done before Sick Week kicks off. Clearly, this combination is capable of making far more power, but for now, we’ll just have to “settle” for 700+ at the rear wheels, which is still more than enough to propel this wild-looking pony car down the track in a hurry.
