Shelby Code Red Mustang Revealed at Woodward Dream Cruise

With 1,300 horsepower on tap, this is one of the most powerful Mustangs ever built.

Recently, Dodge made a shocking announcement: the popular Charger and Challenger will be axed after the 2023 model year. There are those who say that the era of high horsepower muscle cars is over. Apparently, nobody told the fine folks at Shelby American.

Recently, at the Woodward Dream Cruise, Shelby American unveiled one of the wildest Mustangs ever made. YouTuber StangMode was on the scene to capture the moment for posterity. After all, if the naysayers are to be believed, we may not get many more reveals like this in our lifetime.

The car, dubbed Code Red, is based on the already powerful GT500. In the beginning of the video, we can see it hiding underneath a red car cover emblazoned with the famous Shelby snake logo.

Going Undercover

It’s obviously a Mustang, but the bulging fenders and jutting spoilers make it obvious – this is no ordinary pony car. In fact, the rear spoiler on this car is so massive that the car cover can’t even fit over the rear bumper.

If a car needs that much downforce, it’s obviously capable of some serious speed. Serious speed means serious horsepower, and the Code Red has it in spades. Once the cover is pulled back to reveal the car, we’re struck by the announcement that Shelby Code Red Mustang is good for 1,300 horsepower.

We’re still in the process of picking our jaws up off the floor. Among numerous other upgrades, the Code Red trades its supercharger for a pair of turbochargers. Thanks to an upgraded fuel system, this car is E85-ready, and that’s how you unlock that magical 1,300 horsepower. It’s worth noting that 93 octane pump gas will still get you a heady 1,000 horsepower.

Of course, the horsepower figure isn’t the only thing big about the Code Red. Everything is oversized, from the spoilers to the wheels and exhaust tips. It looks more like a cartoon drawing of a muscle car than the real thing, but we can assure you that this car is as real as it gets.
