Mustang unveiled at SEMA

Deep-blue 1969 restomod Mustang unveiled at the 2021 SEMA show was built for Keith Urban in partnership with Ford and many others.

We love a good Mustang restomod. How could you not? Classic Mustang good looks paired with modern power and amenities. Win-win. But even in the world of stunning Mustang restomods this one stands above the rest. This 1969 restomod Mustang unveiled at the 2021 SEMA show was built for country music star Keith Urban. It came together because of the partnership between SEMA Garage, Ford, Jay Leno and other SEMA member companies. With all those resources behind this build, you would expect it to be extra special. And you would be right.

This Mustang has a ton of custom work into it. We could write an entire book on this one build alone. But the folks at SEMA Show recently posted a video on their YouTube channel. In this video that highlight five of the key features that make this Mustang stand out from the ground. Let’s take a look.

Drivetrain and Powertrain

Roush supercharger

It is a Mustang so naturally we are going to start with the powertrain. Under the hood is the 5.0L V8 Coyote engine hooked up to the 10R80 ten-speed automatic transmission. The same setup you would find under a modern Mustang GT. Not bad, but on top of that is a Roush supercharger and a set of custom Borla headers. This Mustang can hustle and sound damn good while doing it.

Brakes and Wheels

Wilwood

Now how does the Mustang control all of that power? Well, stopping duties will be handled by Wilwood. The setup comes with big 6-piston brakes up front and 4-piston brakes in the rear. The rear setup is unique because the brakes are mounted inboard. This results in a reduction of unsprung weight compared to a traditional brakes setup. Custom Forgeline wheels inspired by the 2021 Mach 1 are at all four corners. They are wrapped in the outstanding Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

Suspension

Mustang unveiled

Well, the Mustang can stop and go but can it handle? You better believe it can. The entire suspension differs from the stock 1969 setup. Out back is an independent rear suspension. The car also has Bilstein triple adjustable dampers. So, the driver can set it up for a comfortable drive along some back roads. Or tighten it all down for a day at the track.

Interior

Custom interior

This car can perform but it is also designed to be comfortable. To that end, additional heat and sound dampening was installed. The car also has a set of custom seats for maximum comfort. The heat and air conditioning units were also upgraded to keep all passengers comfy. The inside of this car not only looks fantastic but is a more pleasant place to be than any standard 1969 Mustang could ever dream to be.

Paint and Body

Custom Paint

This is where the real work went in. This has the body of a 1969 Mustang, but it looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor last week. All body panels were properly aligned and then prepped for paint. Santini Paint took care of laying down a lovely shade of blue on this car. This custom paint color was called Mariana Blue. The end result is a striking looking Mustang.

Watch the video below to see just how this car came together. And remember these are only five of the key features. There are probably hundreds of details all over this Mustang unveiled at SEMA 2021. Let us know your thoughts on the restomod over in The Mustang Source forums.
