Suave 16-year-old Takes YouTuber Through Mustang Drift
Though a new-to-him Corvette awaits, teen shows why he’s getting it by out-driving Gavin Simon in a manual Fox Body Mustang.
Do you remember the first time you got a Mustang in your life? Perhaps it was in high school? Whether it was a classic first-gen, an Eighties Fox Body, or a New Edge, there’s nothing like having one of the most American rides in the high school parking lot. Mustangs just go well with senior proms, homecomings, and the big game of the year.
One such lad known by YouTuber Gavin “itsjusta6” Simon already has a Mustang in his life, though his 16th birthday present is actually another all-American ride, a Corvette. However, Caden knows how to drive the pants off the family Mustang, and is more than willing to take Simon on a ride he’ll never forget.
“So, Justin’s son, Caden, here is gonna teach me to drift apparently real quick in his Fox body,” said Simon. “That is a clean car. I have never, ever, ever-ever-ever, ever, ever drifted. I literally walked in, he was like, ‘You wanna learn how to drift today?’ I was like, ‘What?'”
The jade green late-era Fox-body Mustang’s already ready to go, though Caden did have to convince the door handle to let him open the door. Once behind the wheel, however, the stallion’s big V8’s ready to let it all hang out. Even if it means Simon has to hang on for dear life.
“First thing: you don’t have a seat belt,” Caden tells Simon. “But you are seriously safe […] When drifting, whenever the car starts to turn and pull, you’re gonna wanna counter-steer. Basically, you’re just gonna have to keep goin’ back and forth, back and forth, until you feel like you’re in a groove to where you can stay. Don’t hit the curb.”
Caden then demonstrates how drifting a Fox-body Mustang is done in the parking lot of his father’s shop. All that horsepower, all that graceful control, the kid knows what he’s doing behind the wheel. Meanwhile, Simon does avoid the curb, only to scrape the front splitter on the pavement during a turn. Yet, it’s clear he learned a lot from a guy who just got his license.
“Well, I can’t do it,” said Simon. “But at least the 16-year-old that we brought here can!”
Though the Corvette might be Caden’s new daily, at least there’s a Mustang to play with in the parking lot.
