Electric Mustang Shelby Render Dreams of a Speedy Future

By -

We’ll inevitably see an all-electric Mustang Shelby racer, but will it look like this wild, one-off rendering?

Love it or hate it, there’s no denying that electric vehicles are a big part of our future. We certainly hope that the internal combustion engine never fully goes away, of course. But we’re also intrigued by the raw acceleration and instant torque electric vehicles are capable of. We also fully expect an all-electric Mustang variant to become a reality, likely in the near future. And eventually, we might just see something like this wild electric Shelby concept dreamed up by YouTuber Adan Lopez.

Lopez “reveals” his car with a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor at a faux Geneva Motor Show exhibit. “This is a tribute to my personal hero, Carroll Shelby,” Lopez says. “He was a very innovative designer and a very forward thinker. This made me wonder – what would he be doing today?” The clip starts out with a snippet of a Shelby interview, where he famously notes that cars of the future will be running on “anything except peanut butter.” Even though that sounds quite delicious.

Evolution

Lopez calls his new age creation “the first all-electric, high performance racing Shelby Mustang.” Which looks like a proper evolution of the current S550, we must note. The biggest visual differences here are a closed off front end, which is common on most electric vehicles these days. There are still plenty of cooling ducts, however, including in the corners of the front bumper. And that wild looking hood looks plenty capable of moving some air, too.

There are a ton of additional aero bits, as you’d expect on any race car. Things like a giant rear spoiler and diffuser, canards, and side skirts. But while the fenders and front end are clearly unique, the roofline is essentially a carbon copy of the current Mustang. Other details about this electric racer are scant, save for the fact that its body is reportedly all carbon fiber.

It’s an interesting concept for sure, and one that’ll likely come to life eventually. Carroll himself knew that electric power was inevitable, and he certainly would have embraced it. But make no mistake – Shelby would have harnessed its benefits for raw power and speed, not hypermiling in the slow lane.
