Lucky YouTuber Drives 2019 Bullitt Mustang With Head Designer
This year’s Bullitt has an intoxicating bark that comes from a unique exhaust tuning that emulates the original movie car.
For most Mustang fans, the 2019 Bullitt is a big deal. There are thousands of books and articles on Steve McQueen’s iconic 1968 movie car. And since 2004, even Ford has been building official tribute cars. As crazy as it sounds, the Bullitt isn’t as important to others outside of our bubble. That’s made crystal clear in this recent video from YouTuber StangMode.
In this video, the YouTube personalities put the new limited edition Mustang through its paces with the car’s designer Chris Stevens riding along. Of course, the guys at StangMode are huge Mustang fans. But for them, Shelbys and modified cars are their bread and butter.
The StangMode guys are used to automatics. So at first, the video quality suffers from some hard shifts. These guys are no amateurs though; their preference for automatics is about speed. Still, despite a light clutch, the car wins them over. “Full disclosure,” the video’s host says, “it sounds better than mine.”
Stevens explains that the Bullitt’s intoxicating bark comes from a unique exhaust tuning that emulates the original movie car. Despite preferring hotter Mustangs, the guys admit that the Bullitt is pretty impressive.
Crammed in the back seat (“I’m 6’1 and I’m actually not that bad,” he says) Stevens explains how Ford went about turning the S550 into a Bullitt Mustang. “For this one,” he says, “we just really debadged it and gave it this clean look.”
Overall, he says: “there’s no badges on it, so it’s super understated very elegant Mustang for that businessman that doesn’t want to be too flashy.” To us, that’s why it’s perfect.

This is a pretty talk-heavy video, but we still get a good look at the car’s rev-matcher, shift warning system, and 180 mile-per-hour speedometer.
