Donut Media has been producing these “Everything You Need To Know” videos for a while now, and it’s about time they came out with one to commemorate the Mustang’s incredible past. Since April 17, 1964, Ford’s greatest legacy has been engrained in the fabric of our society. It’s always been a fun and relatively inexpensive enthusiast’s car that offers a little bit of something for everyone.
From the rental-spec convertibles filled with tourists that litter the American West to the early-production 260-powered coupe we once saw in Paris, Mustangs are everywhere. It seems like everyone has a Mustang story that they’ll bring up if you mention you own one. So what is there to know about this glorious car?
Well, a lot. The Mustang has always been rear wheel drive. And aside from one horrible year, it’s always been available with an optional V8 engine. The first Mustangs were stylish four-seater coupes that attracted young buyers to Ford dealerships. It didn’t take long for the car to find its footing in competition with Shelby’s GT350 road racer. As later cars became available with larger and more powerful engines, they found a following with drag racers too. There have been myriad special editions and options packages throughout the years, but the Mustang remains the same.
