British Icon TVR Griffith Returns With Ford Muscle Under the Hood

Cosworth-tuned Mustang engine will propel TVR’s resurgence, which may signal the return of Ford power to the world stage.

The Goodwood Revival is known for many things, such as vintage car racing and extravagant parties. Interestingly enough, unveiling exclusive sports cars certainly isn’t one of them — especially the Blue Oval kind.

Iconic British niche sports car manufacturer TVR has rarely given much care to what people think about them. Perhaps they chose for that reason the unorthodox venue for to release the new iteration of the Griffith — a nameplate synonymous with TVR for decades. The new Griffith stuns in many ways, but what’s under the hood gives the real treat and surprise.

According to this video released by MOTUL, the new sports car is projected to exceed 200 mph “out of the box” and will do so relying on good ole’ naturally aspirated Ford power. To be specific, it will sport the European version of the Coyote 5.0-liter V8 engine found in the Mustang GT. As with most Ford power plants from the Old World, the package Cosworth will tune the package to make sure it fits TVR’s specific demands.

Despite the Griffith revealed not being a production model, the British manufacturer’s tests indicate world-class performance such as a sub-four-second 0-60 mph time and an over 200-mph top speed. The video also highlights the close relationship between Gordon Murray and TVR. In case that name rings a bell, you’ll be pleased to know the Griffith’s chief designer also designed the legendary McLaren F1’s design.

With Ford’s ambitious expectations of making the Mustang a truly global vehicle, this new partnership may just mark the rebirth of not only TVR but also of Ford Mustang power worldwide.
