3 Super-Cool Mustangs up for Bidding at Barrett-Jackson Northeast
New and old, these Barrett-Jackson Mustang offerings will prompt drooling.
This week’s Barrett-Jackson Northeast auction includes a number of great Mustangs, from first-generation cars to modern offerings. However, three Mustangs up for auction Saturday really caught our eye. With two highly desirable collectible classics and a one-of-a-kind S197, we think you might enjoy spending some mental money on this trio.
2010 Vaughn Gittin RTR Ford Mustang
“Rule the Road.” That’s what RTR stands for, and drifting champion Vaught Gittin, Jr. helped launch the line of tuned Mustangs in 2010. RTR built this carbon-fiber-clad S197 to help launch the brand. Everything about it shouts “I mean business!” (Of course, “business” equals “serious hooning.”) The supercharged 4.6-liter V8 makes 550 horsepower while it sits on fantastically modified suspension: Ford Racing anti-rollbars front and rear, Autosport Dynamics rear control arms, and TEIN in-car adjustable damping. The carbon-fiber body panels also save 500 pounds over the stock sheet metal. The ultra lightweight carbon-fiber wheels carry less rotational mass, meaning more tire-roasting capability.

1966 Shelby GT350-H
The “H” stands for “Hertz,” making this one of 999 Shelbys built to make the best rental car experience of all time. This one carries all its original paperwork, including documents that show Hertz put it in their rental fleet at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport in 1966. The early years of the jet age and a rocket-ship Shelby to rent? Golden age stuff, right there. This GT350-H includes the original, rebuilt high-output Ford 289 with a C4 automatic transmission. Just about everything is restored correctly or original, which makes this one desirable Hertz Shelby. If a classic Mustang Fastback can be a work of art, this is that.
1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429
The Mustang Club of America rated this trailered Boss 429 restoration 994 points out of 1,000. That alone should speak to the quality of the car, but the photos of this Grabber Blue Mustang fill in the imagination. After a rotisserie restoration, the Boss 429 has run only 10 test miles on the 375-horsepower Boss 429 V8, 4-speed Toploader, and 3.91 limited-slip rear end. Everything inside and out looks food-service clean.
