Apollo Edition Mustang Sells at Auction for $230,000
Over the last decade or so, Ford has partnered up with the Experimental Aircraft Association Youth Aviation Program to build and auction off a collection of custom Mustangs in support of the charity. Eight Mustangs to be exact. And in the last eight years, those custom Mustangs have been able to raise over $3 million for the group’s charity.
The latest creation is the Apollo Edition Mustang, which pays homage to the original Apollo Program. Ford’s Design Manager Melvin Betancourt wanted to create a Mustang that not only resembles the Apollo spaceships, but gets up to speed just as fast. Using a 2015 Mustang GT as the canvas, the Apollo Edition bumps the horsepower to 627 with 540 lb-ft of torque. It also comes with a completely unique paint scheme and a bevy of aftermarket parts.
With the Apollo Edition Mustang in tow, Ford raised $230,000 for the charity at the AirVenture Auction in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Personally, I really dig the scheme of this car, and if Ford offered it as a factory option, I think there could be quite a few people that would pick it up. It wouldn’t be a volume seller, but they’d definitely have at least one buyer with me. Although not for $230,000.
