678-HP, Turbocharged 2017 Mustang GT Is All Kinds of Good

This airbagged 2017 Mustang GT has the dyno-proven guts to back up its mean looks.

Steph from American Muscle has got a seriously cool S550 Mustang project. The car hasn’t been in the works for long, but she’s already got one of the wildest 2017 Mustang builds around. It has a powerful stance matched by a powerful sound. It’s tweaked enough that you can tell it isn’t stock anymore. But even the exterior add-ons don’t belie the monster that lies beneath the hood.

This video of the build’s progress begins with a look at what’s been done on the outside of the car. With a Roush front fascia and the Cervini 4″ cowl induction hood, it sure looks great up front. There was a time when Cervini hoods were something of a design joke in the community, but this one actually flows really well with the lines of the car, without looking too over-the-top. Out back, Steph has added a GT350R-style carbon fiber rear wing. And each side has been amended with a deeper rocker cover. A bit of tint and some gorgeous blue paint tie everything together.

The discussion then moves to the drivetrain modifications. The big talking point is the Hellion twin turbo kit, giving the GT a big helping of extra air. Accordingly, the car has had some help in the fuel-injection arena, with a set of new, larger injectors and a higher-flow fuel pump. An X-pipe and cat-back help the exhaust gasses flow a little easier, and sound a little better as they leave. A lighter flywheel has been mated to a twin-disc clutch from McLeod, which is good for much more power than this car will ever see. Of course, the rest of the driveline has been strengthened with a one-piece aluminum driveshaft and special halfshafts built to withstand the forces of a launch on drag radials.

After all of the name-dropping and fact-reciting, the car hits the dyno to show off its new number. Then Steph gives us her driving impressions, where she grabs the attention of a cop.

What do you think? Can your Mustang top this build?
