2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse Gets Gapped by Modded Ford F-150 XL

2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse vs Ford F-150 XL Drag Race

It wasn’t a good day at the track for this 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, but it also wasn’t a bad one, either.

In the old days, folks wouldn’t dream of wasting their money modifying a truck with the intentions of going drag racing, albeit in small, select cases. This is because, well, why would you do such a thing when you could put the same amount of money into a smaller, lighter vehicle and go even faster with the same amount of power? Things have certainly changed in recent years, however, as we’re seeing more and more fast trucks – many of them from Ford itself – which are plenty capable of taking down all kinds of sports and muscle cars at the track, and that’s also the case in this video from ImportRace, which shows off a 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse hanging out at the track.

On this particular day, we get to see the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse take on a variety of machines at the drag strip, all of which took place during a recent Black Friday event in New Jersey. First up is an Infiniti sedan, of all things, and while we can’t tell what kind of mods it has, it is definitely quick. So quick, in fact, that it manages to outrun the drag radial-equipped Dark Horse with an 11.76-second pass versus an 11.88 for the pony car.

Next up, we have a modified Ford F-150 XL regular cab short bed pickup, and sadly for the Dark Horse, it’s more of the same, as the pickup squeaks out the win with an 11.86 versus an 11.94. Again, it’s unclear what kind of mods the pickup has, but as we’ve seen recently, these basic work trucks are popular targets for supercharging these days, which routinely lifts output north of 700 horsepower.

For its next test, the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse takes on its predecessor, the S550 Shelby GT500. This time around, the DH driver actually out 60-foots the Shelby, but as one might imagine, the mighty GT500’s massive power advantage (260 horsepower, in fact), is more than enough to overcome that deficit by the time both get to mid-track. It winds up rocketing ahead to a 10.29-second quarter-mile versus 11.85 for the Dark Horse, which proceeds to beat a quicker Charger Hellcat that stumbles off the line before calling it a day.

These are obviously not the kind of results 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse owners (or shoppers) would like to see, but in all fairness, every single one of its opponents here is either far more powerful and/or modified in some way, shape, or form. In fact, according to the video’s comments, the GT500 even has a tune, ice box, and cold-air intake, making this performance seem not too terribly bad by comparison – and it also makes us very interested to see what the Dark Horse will do with some mods, too.
