2018 Ford Mustang GT Is Newer, Faster, Better, Says Driving Sports TV

By -

The big news is that the new Mustang GT is faster & more powerful than the outgoing model. But there’s much more to it than that!

The refreshed 2018 Ford Mustang GT is faster, more powerful, and simply better. That much anyone can figure out just by looking at basic stats. But the real question is, what’s it like to drive? For the answer to that burning question, we turn to any number of full-on reviews taking place all over the world at the moment. Today, it’s this excellent, recent once-over by Driving Sports TV.

And where better to test out the potent, Coyote-powered ‘Stang than the California desert? Free from nuisances like traffic and radar gun trigger happy lawmen. Just really long, really flat roads. And boy, does this particular 2018 Ford Mustang GT, equipped with the Performance Pack, sure sound good echoing off the distant mountains.

Our reviewer notes that this particular configuration costs just over $40,000. Which makes it a bit of a performance bargain. They note the 2018 refresh is “mostly about the drivetrain,” not that the outgoing model was exactly slow. But we’ll take a 40 hp increase any day. And the addition of the Performance Pack comes with fun modes like “Drag” and “Track.” A limited-slip, 3.73 geared rear end and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber gets all that power to the ground.

According to our host, that means the Mustang has “an entire desert full of grip.” The engine has a “rich burble” that “just screams America.” As far as actual driving, the GT “isn’t as direct as the GT 350R,” which is to be expected. Regardless, the combination of noises and a “bang on” shifter makes you “feel like you’re in a race car,” albeit “a very comfortable one.” It’s a “do anything sport coupe” that our host “absolutely adores.” And ringing endorsements don’t get any better than that!
