Kicking it Old School With a Retro Fox Body Mustang Video Review

Since Thursday has become the go-to day for diving into fun moments from our past, let’s take a look at a Retro Review from MotorWeek that covers the Mustang GT Convertible from way back in 1988.

It is kind of wild to see what passed as convenient and easy back in the day. The Mustang gets high marks for its simplistic top that only requires you to get out of the car, remove the leather snap-on cover, get back in, press an electronic activation switch, manually latch the top down, and then crawl in the back to zip up the rear window. See? Super easy and convenient. At least the back window is one large sheet of glass, and not plastic.

Of course, we all know the real fun with the old Fox Body GT is found under the hood with that old 302 V8. The 5.0 Stang was known for its outright speed and performance, and MotorWeek tests it properly. From drag strip runs and handling slaloms, they put this GT through its paces. There is some bemoaning about the flex in the chassis and body, but it’s a drop-top from the ’80s. So that much was a given.

It may be blurry, and in a 4:3 aspect ratio, but it is still fun to watch an old car being reviewed when it was new.
