Hood pins?
Who has functional hood pins (NOT the stick-ons. . .)? Likes/dislikes? I am not planning on breaking any land/speed records (yet *evil grin* ) but I think they look tough. Concerned about the cables scratching the paint, but think they look kind of silly without the cables. . . opinions?

Cables Pretty much always rust down the Road in my experience. Love the twist locks. 05-09 Hoods do like to float & wobble at speed. At least in my 05 topped out it did! Just tried that once.

Thanks everyone. I think I am gonna go with the ones from upr. I'm having custom stripes painted on and they said they would install the hood pins for me too.

I have had hood pins from almost day one. I have the Ford Racing pins and have the lanyards tucked under the hood pretty tight so they don't flop around in the wind.
Installation tips:
1. remove the hood liner
2. install the pins where you want them on the brace
3. put some marker powder on the top of the pins
5. gently close the hood so the powder will transfer to the hood
6. use a step bit and slowly drill the holes.
7. good luck

Thanks Rich....quick question. Do you drill from the underside of the hood for the full hole, or start from the underside and finish from the topside? Not sure if it matters, but just figured I would ask, as I'm sure when I first start to drill, I'm going to be a bit nervous.

I did mine from the top and went right through. I used pre-existing holes in the radaitor support to mount the pins. Make sure to go slow and take it easy. I also used paint on the metal that I drilled through.

Thanks guys. I've got painters tape and touch up paint in my tool box, so I'll keep those handy when I drill. I'll also pick up a step bit for drilling and maybe a center punch? Does the type of step bit matter?
Sorry so many questions, just never really drilled any metal before and would rather be safe than sorry.

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...3&blockType=G3 I used this bit, but any type of metal step bit will work, just make sure to measure twice before drilling once. The hole also needs to be slightly larger than the pin because the hood needs to open and close over it.

Thanks guys, appreciate the help. You know, I guess I realized the hood was hollow, yet it didn't even cross my mind on how to address that. Makes sense you'd want to fill it with something. Also makes sense why you'll want to be careful both when drilling and when attaching the hood pin plates, so as not to dent the hood. I know when I removed my spoiler, I had to be pretty careful too, as that metal is pretty thin.
Note, I've never used liquid aluminum before. Pretty straight forward? Assuming it's a puddy type substance?

I never installed the bottom plate either. You don't want to dimple your hood and it will be fine without it. Just squeeze some of the gunk into the gap and remember your not trying to fill the entire hood. LOL Some sort of puddy might even be better.
