2005 GT Battery Replacement
I think the battery in my 2005 GT just called it quits. The car is a garage queen with just under 8K miles and I've always used a Battery Tender on it while garaged. It was fine three months ago when I took it for inspection. Today just "click, click", not enough power to work the windows even.
Put a 10 amp charger on it & after an hour and a half the charger indicated "full" so shut off and re-connected the batt cables. Still dead!
Knowing that there were some issues with these original batteries (BXT-40R) back when the cars were new, I'm thinking of upgrading to the BXT-96R battery. After all, it is six years old now. Will this battery work OK in a 2005 model? BTW, my car is equipped with the Shaker 1000. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, Ned. I just found out about the size difference while at the Ford store. I went ahead and ordered a 40R and will pick it up this afternoon.
Interesting that the newer 96R is rated at 500 cold cranking amps while the 40R is 590 CCA.

I'm on battery #5. For reasons I cannot fathom, the dealership just loves continuing to replace batteries under warranty. You'd think they would come up with something to address the issue once and for all.

Just got the new battery in and all appears good except I need to look up the procedure to reset the driver's side window. Won't auto up and doesn't drop when door is opened.
I really can't complain. The Battery Tender has done a good job for the past six years and I think this problem was due to a cell shorting internally.

The 40R only came on early cars with the active alarm.
The 40R was the upgrade.
The issues were not with the batteries. They were with the cars.
Your battery just got old.

Your Mustang owner's manual explains just how to reset your windows operation programing. Easy stuff, takes one minute or less. CalStang

Mine is also somewhat of a garage queen and it was dead again about 3 weeks ago. I put the charger on it and all seems fine once again. Once they won't hold a charge they're done. I will be starting mine over the weekend. We'll see how that goes. I'm also on the original battery.

The battery may not the problem. My GT is a daily driver and I have the shaker 1000 radio. It may be the Shaker 1000 amp. it will still draw power even when the car is shut off. Every winter after i got my GT if I didn't use my car after 2 or more days it would need a jump. This past winter I took the fuse's out just for the Shaker 1000 amp and it sat for a week because of all the snow I got and it fired right up. I've had my battery replaced once under warranty for this issue and then replaced it again afterwards with an Optim yellow top. The first time it happened I took it to the dealer and when they tested for power draw while the car was off the Shaker amp would still draw with the car copmpletly shut off.

OEM battery is OK
Both my '06 OEM batteries are still fine.
My truck's battery is now 8+ years old and still works and test fine.
I will probably replace the truck's this year anyway.
I use Interstate batteries for replacements.

I have Active Alarm plus Shaker 1000 and actually went to the smaller 96R Walmart Energizer since they didn't offer the 40R. It's been working great so far. I still haven't bought the smaller battery insulator/fume blanket yet.
