Ford Submits Mustang for 2013 Sprint Cup ApprovalYou knew it was coming, but Ford has made it official.  Ford recently made it clear that it would like to race the Mustang in the 2013 Sprint Cup Series. Ford ran the Mustang in four races in the second-tier Nationwide Series last  year and were pleasantly surprised by the support they received.  “We have declared our interest to NASCAR that we would like to see the Mustang in Cup,” Jamie Allison, director of Ford’s North American Motorsports program, told The Associated Press on Friday.

As has been discussed before in our Ford Motorsport forums, NASCAR would be doing itself a favor to require the cars on the track to look more like their brethren on the road and in the showrooms.  Even if NASCAR has a Camaro racing a Mustang, if they look the same, it’s going to be hard to win over the average owner.
