Performance details pertaining to the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD have been revealed, and they’re quite good, we’d say.

It may seem hard to believe at this point, but it’s been over a year since the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD was revealed, at which time The Blue Oval stunned the world by presenting us with what it promised would be the ultimate performance iteration of the 60-year-old pony car. The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is packing not only boatloads of race car-derived tech, but also, a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 said to produce north of 800 horsepower. Now, FoMoCo has released all of the details surrounding this powerplant and some performance specs to back that up.

For starters, the special version of the 5.2-liter V8 in the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD – which was previously used in the S550-generation Shelby GT500 and is currently in the F-150 Raptor R – has been tweaked a number of ways, which helps it produce a cool 815 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. According to Ford, that makes the GTD capable of reaching 202 miles-per-hour – the highest top speed of any pony car ever, though it matches the 2013 GT500 in that regard.

To achieve this power bump over the 760-horsepower S550 GT500 and 720 horsepower Raptor R, Ford gave this version of the 5.2-liter mill a revised intake and exhaust, a standard titanium exhaust, and a smaller supercharger pulley to ramp up the boost. The GTD is also the first Mustang to ever utilize a dry sump oiling system, which helps keep the engine lubricated during hard cornering, and raises its max speed by 100 rpm, to 7,650 rpm.

This mammoth level of power – coupled with an array of active aerodynamics, carbon-ceramic brakes, and an inboard-rear suspension with semi-active dampers – aims to help the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD achieve FoMoCo’s goal of lapping the legendary Nuburgring in Germany in under seven minutes. Interestingly, the GTD also utilizes a Drag Reduction System that can change the angle of the rear wing and activate flaps under the front of the car to find exactly the right balance between airflow for speed and downforce for grip – which should also help it achieve that lofty goal.

“We’ve been laser focused since day 1 to make Mustang GTD the first-ever supercar with world-class performance and the soul of a Mustang,” said Mustang GTD Chief Program Engineer Greg Goodall. “GTD’s heart is its supercharged 5.2-liter V8, packing more horsepower per liter than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. We’ve combined the work of talented engineers and designers, as well as an extremely capable driver, with Mustang GTD technology, power and aerodynamics. We can’t wait to deliver on our sub-7-minute promise to GTD customers.”
