We all know that more and more electric cars are coming, and that the age of the internal combustion engine may be slowly dying within the next half century. This has caused many of us enthusiasts to lament that slow death. But should we be?

In my opinion, I really like the sound of an engine. It’s part of the visceral experience of a fast car. That said, the Tesla Model S is hugely impressive in the way it puts down power. And it’s definitely faster than most things on the road since all of its torque is available at 0 rpm. However, what would happen if you put one of those Tesla electric motors into something with a bit more nostalgia? Well, you’d get this: the Zombie 222.

The Zombie 222 used to be a 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback back in the day, but is now powered by an 800 horsepower electric motor that also makes 1800lb-ft of torque. Essentially, it’s a drag car. 0-60? 2.4 seconds. And a quarter mile in 10.7. Now, compared to modern funny cars, or top fuel cars, that isn’t exactly impressive. That is until you see how this thing launches.

The way this car gets up and goes is straight up staggering. But it’s better than just a cool experiment since it still has all the good looks of a 1968 Ford Mustang. It’s the perfect blend of old and new. You can read more of the story behind the man and the car here.
