The push to go global has driven Ford Motor Co. to add a number of new tech features to the 2015 Mustang. Techies, not just gear heads, have a lot to appreciate here. Sure, it’s the exterior design that attracts people to a new car, but technology is quickly becoming a major factor among a growing number of younger buyers.

Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Electronics Association, probably put it best following the announcement of the Mustang being named as the official car of the 2014 International CES held in January.

“It is very exciting to see an iconic American car like Mustang equipped with state-of-the-art technology,” said Shapiro, in an official Ford press release. “Automobiles are rapidly becoming mobile technology platforms as consumers demand connectivity along with efficiency and performance in their vehicles.”

The list of tech gadgets featured in the new Mustang include a standard backup camera; push-button ignition; cross-traffic alert, which alerts drivers of oncoming traffic; and forward collision warning to name a few.

The 2015 Mustang also features Track Apps, a system that gives drivers instant access to data on things like acceleration, breaking and handling performance through the instrument cluster screen.

In addition, the s550 will be the first Ford to offer the company’s next gen AppLink smart phone connectivity system.

Even the idea of the technology driving the optional 2.3-liter Eco-Boost engine will likely appeal to techies, which coupled with features like an eight-inch high-resolution touch screen is likely sure to make the Mustang a hit among the car buyers.
