F1 Drivers Max Verstappen and Arvid Lindblad shoot out on track with a Dark Horse SC and a 1966 GT40 MK II in epic video battle.

Ford recently announced the Mustang Dark Horse SC. It’s safe to call it the successor to the S550 Mustang GT500. It shares the 5.2-liter supercharged Predator engine from the GT500. In addition, it also has the same seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. At the time of writing this article, Ford has yet to release an official power number. However, it’s safe to assume it will be at least equivalent to the 760 horsepower the GT500 put out. We certainly wouldn’t be opposed to more power, either, but this video makes it clear that it’s got plenty of performance prowess.

That’s not to say Ford didn’t release the Dark Horse SC without a bang. Red Bull posted a video to its YouTube channel featuring Redbull’s Racing Bulls F1 drivers Max Verstappen and Arvid Lindblad. In the video, they’re faced with a range of car options spanning 100 years and a set of challenges. For the cornering challenge, Verstappen went with the Dark Horse SC while Lindblad took the legendary 1966 Ford GT40 MKII.

60 Years of Tech Improvement and Racing Optimization

While there’s certain to be a bit of discrepancy you can credit to the difference in drivers, it’s safe to assume that these two pros squeezed the most out of each car that one possibly could. The end result was Verstappen running a 37.81 in the Dark Horse SC. Lindblad put down a 41.15 and managed to get just a bit off the track.

It’s a little unnerving to watch a Ford GT40 go off course like that. Hagerty valuation says a 1966 GT40 MK II is worth $7.3 Million in good condition, so there’s a lot on the line, here. However, we’re just happy to see this multi-million dollar legend get to stretch its legs where it belongs: on a race track. We can only dream of an opportunity to blitz such an iconic car around a track. Frankly, track times be damned, we’d still take the GT40 for a rip over the Dark Horse SC any day.

Overall, it’s not surprising to see a car with six extra decades of technology, research, and development on its side lap the track faster. The Dark Horse SC is a true-blue track weapon, and we can’t wait to see it on the road. For now, we’ll just have to keep re-watching the Dark Horse vs GT40 portion of the Red Bull video, which you can see below.
