George Follmer-Inspired Boss 302 Rocks the Race Track

Creative build pays homage to one of the best drivers in Trans-Am history.

What happens when you take a Boss 302, add a little vintage-racer inspiration, but take off restrictions of historical accuracy? You get this awesome Mustang.

Translation might be a bit foggy, but from what we gather, this Boss 302 was made to look like racing legendĀ George Follmer‘s Trans-Am race car. Under the hood is a 429 cubic inch Ford stroker motor, replacing the 302 which would have normally been found powering the ‘Stang.

Perhaps because the car is found racing in Spain, the requirements for it to be 100% authentic aren’t required, but at a track like Motorland Aragon, it certainly stands out among all the other Euro and Japanese cars.

Said to be making over 550 horsepower, and with noticeably new rubber filling the wheel arches, we can only imagine this “Boss 429” is a monster around the track. Our introduction to it is in the pit garages where it actually scares a passer-by upon starting up. If you’ve got a great sound system, we encourage you to turn it up!

This is an idea we can get behind, too! It’s not like it’s pretending to be an authentic Follmer car, it’s just a cool recreation. Plus, it’s not at a car show, it’s at a race track. Those are the kinds of cars we favor most at The Mustang Source.

While some people might have a problem with the fact it’s not completely true to original, we don’t. We want to see more vintage Mustangs carving up the track, putting those newer European and Japanese cars on watch. Like they say, “there’s no replacement for displacement. Quotes like that have been around for years, but this Boss 429 is proof that it still holds true.
