Twin Turbo Five-Point-Oh Nearly Takes the Crown

By -

Running in the sevens all day, this twin-turbo Mustang dominates the field … right up until the final.

When you’re having a good day, when your car is dialed in, and everything is running great, you feel like you’re king of the world, like nothing could possibly go wrong. But leave everything to chance, and the ability of a 7-second car to keep everything working in the right order becomes a bit of a sticking point. You have to trust that a thousand different parts will continue to work the way they have all day, and that’s not always a given.

7-second mustang

In the video above, Justin’s Mustang was running killer times all day, far and away the fastest car in the Street Racer class. In his first run for the competition, Justin completely blew away a twin-turbo S550, to the point that it just cut the throttle and coasted to a 14.9-second run, nearly twice the winning 7.63-second time.

From there, Justin just continued to click off 7-second runs all day. He won two classes outright, before taking the Street Racer runs. He was pretty confident that this class would give him a trifecta.

And everything looked to be going Justin’s way, too, right up until the finals come around. This monster five-liter turbo car takes on a quick, but not quick enough, Fox Body Mustang. Of course, that’s when Justin’s car decides that it doesn’t want to race properly, and he has to make some last minute adjustments to the trans brake. The guy in the Fox Body waits some 20 minutes before just taking a solo pass to win the final.

What do you think of how that final race was handled? Fair or no? Weigh in on the forums.
