Fox Body With Grille-Mounted Turbo Finds Its Happy Place

The best place for a turbo, it seems, is right on the snout of a Fox Body. And the best place for this Fox Body is on the drag strip. Powered by a 427 cubic-inch small block Chevy, this Mustang makes about 1,400 horsepower through the use of an 88-mm turbo.

Built by Fast Track Performance, this Mustang eats up 1/8th mile and 1/4 mile races with ease. His best time for the 1/8th mile stands at 4.86 seconds at 151 miles per hour. 1,320 feet was completed in a wicked fast 7.48 seconds at 191 miles per hour.

As you can see in the video below, the setup was good enough to mostly dominate the small tire races at Beech Bend Raceway Park. In the first race, the Fox edged out a small block Ford Mustang, but only just. Round two was a bye run, but the final round for small tire was a bit of a nail biter.

Lining up next to a promod is daunting in itself, let alone a 440 cubic-inch big block on N2O. The Fox didn’t win the 1/8th this time around, but had it been a 1/4 mile race, it would be a different story. The promod Mustang self destructed, leaving a trail of smoke and a long night of wrenching for its crew.
