Ford Mustang Becomes Germany’s Top Selling Sports Car
It’s almost inconceivable to think that in a country like Germany that an imported sports car can out sell a native, but it has actually happened. Honest.
Arizona Driver Magazine came across a list of top sport coupes sold in Germany in the first quarter of 2016, and much to the surprise of all in the industry, the Mustang outsold both the Audi TT AND the Porsche 911.
While exciting indeed, it also makes us wonder: is this a short term curiosity given the Mustang is available in right hand drive? Probably not, considering Germany drives on the left. Like the rest of us.
It is, however, available as a “world car,” with attributes from each market available or not, depending on the way the car is specified. The magazine also doesn’t mention if these cars were sold with the 5.0 motor or not. That would make a big difference on the performance per dollar that we Americans have loved so much since the 1960s.
Is it time that the Germans sample a bigger taste of these simple but fun machines? We can only hope so. With the softness of German cars lately, maybe they can learn a thing or two about having fun with a car again?
